Parents: Relax and Restore: Mindfulness Tools for Life

Shimila Keenum, LCSW, RN, ADS-RT, LMHP-S

Parents and caregivers, please join Love 2 Learn for an opportunity to relax and restore with mindfulness. Shimila Keenum will lead this opportunity with Love 2 Learn Parent Consults supporting each parent’s individual application.  Masters in Social Work, Registered Nurse and Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist, mother and wife, who specializes in working with parents, couples and families.  Shimila has been  teaching and co-facilitating experiential and didactic outpatient mindfulness groups and public workshops.

Learn how to restore and refresh yourself!  Scientific studies have found that mindfulness results in many beneficial, measurable changes including:

  • Awareness of one’s self care-care as a person and as a parent
  • Improved regulation of emotions
  • Improved wellbeing
  • Increased empathy and compassion
  • Decreased stress and anxiety
  • Increased patience, gratitude, and body awareness

When we asked Tara, one of our BCBAs what she thought of the program, this is what she said,

"I have been participating in the Parents' Mindfulness Workshop with one of my clients for a few months now, and I have not only seen a shift in the way my client is relating to her son, but I have also experienced benefits as a clinician in regards to my mental health and well-being!  Don't be fooled, this is not just some "out-there" workshop that is not related to ABA or research!  All of the lessons are focused on various antecedent strategies we can use as parents and clinicians to be fully present and intentional with our decisions.  It has given me a space, free of judgement, to pause and reset so that I can be of better service to others. I look forward to this workshop monthly, and will continue to participate as long as I can!"
